    About

The Rabbit Project is an organization dedicated to the concept of helping rabbit-kind. Our mission is threefold:

    1. To educate the public about rabbits as pets,
    2. To prevent uninformed purchases/adoptions of rabbits who will later be abandoned, and
    3. For those who are ready for the responsibility, to encourage adoption of rabbits as Friends for Life.

Though rabbits need our help year-round, they are in greater need of assistance around the Easter season.

Every Easter, children beg their parents for an Easter Bunny of their very own. While some of these rabbits find happy, loving homes, too many are brought into homes ill prepared for the care of these special animals. Their new owners quickly tire of them once the realities of rabbit care set in-or when their cute, tiny bunny develops into a full-grown rabbit.

Post-Easter, rabbit rescue societies and humane societies are flooded with ex-Easter Bunnies whose owners no longer want them. While some of these bunnies will be adopted, many of them will not be able to find new homes and are then euthanized. Other less fortunate rabbits are abandoned outdoors to face predators, cars, illness and injury, and a less-than-humane premature death.

Moral of the story? If you invite a bunny into your home, make the bunny your Friend for Life. Love your bunny, don't leave him!
